“Sometimes the things we can’t change end up changing us.” When I met Matthew almost 5 years ago, he could still see. He could walk but had to use support, he could hear perfectly and he could speak.

I took Matthew to the biggest hospitals in Yaounde, with the hope to fix what was broken. we did all kinds of testing with many different specialist. Nothing seems to work.

Over the past 5 years Matthew condition has been getting worse.. He is gradually losing all his senses and so much more isn’t getting better. He growth is stunted (he is 17years now).

But our love for each other has grown bigger. I couldn’t change his health but my heart has changed. I cannot explain what this child did to me but I am very grateful for what I have learned through my relationship with him through my foundation.

I love that he remembers my smile. I remember the expression on his face whenever he used to look at me. Seeing him again after 8 months was rough, especially that he can’t speak clearly and can’t see anymore.

I was hiding my tears even though I knew he couldn’t see them… I knew he could feel them and there was no was I was going to ruin our visit!

When I met Matthew almost 5 years ago, he could still see things we cant change

Matthew reminds me that “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched- they must be felt with the heart.”~ Helen Keller

NB: Matthew received his very first wheelchair on 12/14/2021 and this is bringing a big relief to those who are taking care of him. Finally, he has been lifted off the floor on a corner of a room and can now be taken out for some sun or a walk. I am very grateful for that.

With love
